Fam! it’s Wednesday! and you guessed it, It’s time for Word Crush Wednesdays! I’m taking the reins from B today (God help me) and I think it’s time to clue y’all up on the amazing George The Poet. He is a British spoken word artist and he kinda delves into socio-political issues in his spoken word performances .Trust me we need this now with everything happening around the world.
Yes! I said it! And I mean it…
I mean, isn’t rap just poetry over a certain type of instrumental that transforms it into rap music? Err please correct me if i’m wrong.
But I’ve always felt like the best rappers are poets… the way they string the words, their delivery, the intellect.. it’s poetry to my ears!
This is probably the saddest poem I have shared on this series! I don’t know if she spoke from her own realities or speaking from experiences from other women. Whatever the case, she captured this tragically beautifully (if that makes any sense at all).
‘What if men who claim to have the best pullout game are actually shooting blanks’ I’ve joked. Or what if women who have been taking contraceptives for many years decide to try for a baby once they get married only to find out they have fertility issues.
I was looking for what poem to share this week (very last minute to be honest).
Then I stumbled on this GEM right here! It’s old AF, maybe almost a decade old now.
Thank God for Def Poetry and Youtube.
Hey Guys! Hope you’ve been enjoying this series as much as I have been! Here’s another one from Carvens Lissaint! I think this was the first poem of his that actually made me really like his work!
This is about him loving himself after so many years of hating himself due to people’s words and actions against him just because of his skin color!
It’s really powerful and emotional… vulnerability isn’t weakness, don’t be fooled!
Now this poem! LMFAOOO!!!
Yo! Listened to it this poem for the first time yesterday and my jaw dropped! Not because it’s deep and brilliant… but because of how hilarious it is to me! From the first line… I knew I was going to like it…
This poem right here!!!!!!!!!!! This poem right here guys!!!!! #ThankMeLater
The video automatically starts from where the poem begins but if you want background on the inspiration of the poem then start from the beginning.
